5 Worst Wrestling Promotions You May Not Have Heard Of

3. Nu-Wrestling Evolution

The very name of the promotion ensured it was more or less destined to fail.

The "Nu" prefix suggested overtones of nu-metal, a music genre which had about as much currency in 2005 as Bill Cosby does now. The "Evolution" part was more curious still. If it was "Nu", surely it signalled a revolution? It was founded in Italy. It could be forgiven for a slight mistranslation - but not for presenting one of the worst matches in pro wrestling history.

In any event, it wasn't difficult to infer the meaning behind the promotion's name. This was a wrestling promotion which looked ahead to the future. The most famous match it presented marked a battle between 2008's hottest prospects - Orlando Jordan and the Ultimate Warrior!

The match holds up as a depressing curio. The highlights are embedded above, but the entire thing went nigh on twenty minutes. Warrior wrestled the match so that his young daughters could see him perform, but NWE spectacularly failed to capture his essence. He was gassed within seconds. It might be fair to state that his preparation was lazy in the extreme - but wrestling for that long was something the Warrior barely did.

Combined with the vile WWE-produced Self Destruction Of...DVD, it would have marked a sad end to the Warrior's career. WWE's revisionist history is maddening at times - but even if it did so purely for money, it was nice to see Warrior eventually welcomed back into the fold. He deserved to be handled correctly.

Well, his career did. He was a bit of an ar*ehole IRL.
