5 WWE Smackdown Draft Picks That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)

2. Ric Flair (2007)

It was obvious in the summer of 2007 that Ric Flair was very much in the winter of his career. Also, having been exclusively on Raw - where he was once general manager - since 2002, it was time for him to move on and try his hand at something else. He needed new challenges, new opponents and new storylines and so he was transferred to Smackdown in June

Flair has a few matches on Smackdown television against the likes of MVP, Finlay and Carlito, before he was 'injured' by The Great Khali and written out of storylines. So soon? Turns out, Flair was not happy with the way his character had been handled and had actually handed in his notice to WWE officials shortly after switching brands.

In Flair's mind, despite winding down as a full-time in-ring performer, he deserved better than his lot. The Nature Boy had a meeting with Vince McMahon on September 20th, which did not go well (Flair had the gall to bring his lawyers with him and the two clashed over his on-screen portrayal).

Flair would return eventually, of course, in November, but he wasn't back to being a quote-unquote 'Smackdown Superstar'. Indeed, Slick Ric began the storyline where he needed to keep winning matches, thus he be forced to retire, matches that took place on Raw, Smackdown and ECW.

Further to that, Flair continued to wrestle on Raw house shows and feuded with Raw's Ken Kennedy, further disassociating himself from the blue brand.
