5 WWE Smackdown Draft Picks That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
1. John Cena (2011)
Similar to the Triple H situation of 2004, this was a pointless exercise done to massage the ego of a top star.
Cena, who had wrestled on Smackdown from his debut in June of 2002 until he was drafted to Raw in June 2005, was drafted back to Smackdown in 2011 as the first daft pick of the night. A monumental pick, no? The biggest star in the business going back to the 'B' show. Boy, how he could help them out. Think of all the fres...
Okay, sorry. Couldn't go on there. As anyone familiar with this particular draft knows, Cena was a Smackdown roster member for the length of the Raw draft broadcast. Following the main event, in which team Raw beat team Smackdown, Big Match John was drafted back to Raw, becoming the first performer to change shows and then back again in one night.
And why? To create a little bit of buzz? To add another 'accolade' to Cena's ridiculous CV? The whole thing was pointless, a waste of two draft picks that could have helped further shape the identities of the shows.
Considering how guys like Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston and Sheamus were drafted via the bogus 'online' draft, it's inexcusable that two draft picks would be used just to put Cena over as a big deal.
