5 WWE Smackdown Draft Picks That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
4. Jeff Hardy (2008)
The Charismatic Enigma returned to WWE in August 2006 after a near three-and-a-half year absence from the company. Jeff returned on Raw, where he had wrestled exclusively in the wake of the 2002 draft until his firing in April 2003. The talented star immediately set about capturing Johnny Nitro's Intercontinental Title.
Following his inevitable IC triumph and subsequent defeat, Jeff began tagging once more with brother Matt, before his burgeoning popularity and consistently high performance level convinced WWE management to book the Rainbow-Haired Warrior in a WWE Title programme with Randy Orton in early 2008.
He was unsuccessful in his quest, but would capture the 'big one' soon enough, once he was drafted over to Smackdown in the summer 2008 draft. Jeff was a top star on the blue show and had a great series of matches with Triple H and Edge, capturing the WWE Title in a triple threat match at Armageddon 2008.
Jeff was great for Smackdown as he was so over and was regularly having good matches against all comers. His feuds with Edge, CM Punk and, to a lesser extent, Matt Hardy in 2009 were all rewarding. Importantly, when it was time to leave he went out on top, as the most popular star on Smackdown in a red-hot feud with Punk.
He lost his final Smackdown (and final WWE) match to the Straight-Edge Superstar in the cage match main event of the August 28th, 2009 episode of the show.
