5 WWE Smackdown Draft Picks That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
4. Muhammad Hassan & Khosrow Daivari
Okay, so there was nothing that Muhammad Hassan and Daivari could have done on Smackdown, given the circumstances, but this goes down as one of the most pointless draft picks ever, in hindsight. Daivari and Hassan were drafted from Raw to Smackdown on the June 23rd, 2005 episode of the show, with Hassan picking up a quick win over Big Show on the night.
Hassan was on a hell of a roll, defeating pretty much everyone on Raw since the turn of the year and mixing it up with top stars like Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and Batista. WWE clearly had big plans for him on Smackdown, too, which is why he went over Show and then began to feud with The Undertaker.
Unfortunately, the infamous 'terrorist' angle - during which men in ski masks attacked and garrotted 'Taker before carrying out Daivari as a martyr - was aired the same day as the very real 7/7 London bombings. The angle was in poor taste, but the timing was catastrophic.
According to UPN, WWE had went too far and they pressured the company to keep Hassan off of their network. WWE had no real choice but not write him off of TV until the storm blew over, so they had The Deadman obliterate him at the Great American Bash pay-per-view, a Last Ride through the stage acting as his WWE swan song.
There were supposedly huge plans for Hassan post-Undertaker feud, with one rumour having him beat Batista for the World Heavyweight Title (thus becoming the youngest WWE World champion in history). Alas, it was not to be, with Hassan now acting as a mere footnote in WWE history, and one of the poorest draft picks ever.
