5 WWE Superstars Who Are Defying The NXT Call Up Curse
4. Lacey Evans
Remember when for weeks Lacey Evans’ only job was to stride up and down the entrance ramp like a displaced catwalk model? WWE even had her do it at WrestleMania to crowd indifference. It was so strange that it had to be leading somewhere. Then it didn’t.
The First Lady of WWE is an odd case. She was never particularly beloved by NXT’s Full Sail faithful. In fact, when she was pushed into a title programme, people were furious she’d jumped the queue ahead of more beloved NXT alumnae like Ember Moon and Asuka.
Subjectively, her mixed tag main event at Stomping Grounds was enjoyable in a sports entertainment way but it was also poorly received and couldn’t have come at a worse time. Seth Rollins’ misjudged, “best wrestling on the planet,” remarks were still fresh in all our minds.
For whatever reason (the drool on Kevin Dunn’s chin or the tent in his trousers) Evans has continued to feature prominently on WWE TV. This despite still not looking ready for the part.
McMahon must be baffled. He finally goes all in on an NXT call up and still the hardcore fans aren’t happy.
