5 WWE Superstars Who Are Defying The NXT Call Up Curse
3. Nikki Cross
Nikki Cross’ slightly broad, “crazy,” persona found favour with NXT fans as part of the SAnitY stable. Even after her stablemates were sent off to flounder on SmackDown, she was placed at the centre of the black and gold brand’s biggest angle. Witness to the attack on Aleister Black and feuding with Bianca Belair, she was kept in a prominent role.
When she followed SAnitY to the main roster, fans hoping she’d rejoin and revitalise that group were disappointed. After indifferent booking and the briefest of team ups with Alicia Fox, a draft to RAW saw her disappear for weeks.
For a while, it looked like nobody wanted to play with Nikki. She was like that kid your mum makes your invite to your birthday party who you think will break all your toys.
Then suddenly, inexplicably, she was befriended by one of the cool kids. Her pairing with office favourite Alexa Bliss meant guaranteed TV time and she’s finally been able to get over with the wider fan base.
Despite presumed plans for a turn that may yet happen, Bliss and Cross are currently two of the division’s biggest babyfaces. It might be a stretch to say they’ve brought prestige to the Women's Tag Team Titles but they’ve come the closest.
