Birthplace: Nekoosa, Wisconsin Even though he is a six-time World Champion, it might be Ed Lewis' contributions outside the ring that he will be most remembered for. As a member of the "Gold Dust Trio" with Toots Mondt and Billy Sandow, Lewis helped to transform pro wrestling into what we know today, and this all came nearly 100 years ago. The trio would create undercards for shows, allowing them to sell more tickets by promoting several matches instead of just a main event. They also created the wrestling storyline, allowing stories to be told instead of merely having a champion picking a contender to face off against. It was that exhibition-style that fans got behind, after decades of slower, almost non-action, in the sport, and is responsible for just about everything we see in wrestling today.
