Eddie Fatu’s WWE tenure got off to a rocky start. As part of 3 Minute Warning, he was nothing more than one of Eric Bischoff’s hired heavies, whose job description included ‘demolish the HLA lesbians’. Needless to say, no one really saw much in him at that point, so thankfully, he was repackaged a few years later as something more eye-catching: the Samoan Bulldozer, Umaga.

While the whole ‘Samoan savage’ gimmick might sound like a relic of a bygone decade, Umaga, with his tribal face paint, wild hair, Samoan-exclusive vocabulary, and insane agility, made the gimmick work. His nickname was highly appropriate, as he bulldozed through the RAW roster indiscriminately. No one was safe from him, not even WWE Divas.

His power made him a main-eventer on several occasions, including in the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ at WrestleMania 23. Unfortunately, Umaga refused to go to rehab in later years of his career, and was released, despite having been built up as a genuine monster.

If he had accepted rehab and had done what WWE wanted, maybe he’d still be employed with the company…and alive, for that matter.
