Bradshaw can be best described as a sort of ‘middle-of-the-road’ sort of wrestler. He isn’t particularly BAD at anything, but apart from playing his JBL character and having one of the stiffest and most devastating lariats in WWE, John Layfield doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, either.
Before his gimmick change, Bradshaw was one half of the APA, a beer-drinking comedy tag team. Sure, both of them were legitimate tough guys, but no one considered either one of them World Title caliber WWE Superstars. But after Bradshaw became JBL, everything changed.
With a lack of main-event-level Superstars, JBL was placed in a feud with Eddie Guerrero, and later beat him for the WWE Championship. However, no amount of character acting could redeem JBL for his string of less-than-stellar title matches. Not even opponents like Cena or the Undertaker could save him.
Afterwards, JBL went back to the mid-card, where he floated around aimlessly, before retiring for a while. During that period, he did excellent work on commentary which, unfortunately, is far more than what can be said about how he fares in that position now.
Final Rating: ***3/4
