Pros:

1. Unbelievably athletic

2. Had good to great matches on a regular basis

3. Good promo ability

Cons:

1. The single most underrated wrestler in recent memory

2. The ‘Momma’s Boy’ gimmick

3. His story is the reason why fans perceive WWE to have a glass ceiling

Shelton Benjamin was one of WWE’s most exciting wrestlers, yet he was so horribly under-utilized. This was a man who could work excellent matches with pretty much everyone, who could work in any division, and wrestle pretty much any style. His involvement in the MITB matches, his excellent match with Shawn Michaels in the Gold Rush Tournament, and his overall amazing athleticism should’ve been obvious signals for a main-event push.

Sadly, Benjamin instead became the poster child for backstage politics screwing someone over. According to some reports, Benjamin was disrespectful to a WWE legend, and that was enough to send him down the card with cinderblocks tied to his feet.

He was saddled with a ‘Mama’s Boy' gimmick, and became an overnight joke. Benjamin never recovered, and that one bad gimmick, and the one stupid comment that caused disrespect, ended the gradual ascent of one of the most talented WWE wrestlers of the 2000s.

Lesson learned: best keep your mouth shut backstage; you don’t know what will cause someone to take offence and end your push before it even starts.
