6 Arguments For And Against TNA's Six-Sided Ring

Against...

3. It Won€™t Lead to New Fans

Let€™s face it -- no one is going to tune into a wrestling program just because they have a different style ring. Yes, a casual fan scanning channels may pass over Impact and be intrigued by the ring, but the ring alone will not hold their attention or keep them watching. And in some cases, the ring may be too off-putting for uninitiated viewers. As previously mentioned, Impact has generally seen a slight ratings increase since the six-sided ring made its return. While it€™s impossible to determine if those new viewers are returning fans or new viewers, it€™s easy to assume that whatever the case may be, the slight ratings increase is far below TNA€™s hopes and expectations. Quite simply, the six-sided ring is unique and it does help set TNA apart from the far more global WWE brand, however, it is not enough to win over new fans and lead to significant growth. Bringing back the six-sided ring was a great decision on TNA€™s part, but wrestling fans who have never watched Impact before -- or regularly -- will not suddenly flock to the program because of the atypical ring design. However, TNA can use the renewed buzz surrounding their flagship program as a way to capture the interest of new viewers -- but they have to offer something beyond just the ring. The on-air product has to captivate new viewers enough to keep them coming back for more, and so far -- as the barely slight ratings increase proves -- TNA has failed to do that.
