6 Best Traditional WWE Royal Rumble Alternatives

4. Square Go (ICW)

There's a reason why Insane Championship Wrestling changed the way people look at the industry in Scotland. For years, numerous promotions ran with a traditional Royal Rumble idea, mimicking WWE's success with the gimmick, knowing it'd make for a popular addition to shows.

Somewhere along the way, ICW chose to mess around with the established formula of the Rumble and add their own sick spin on the match. Dubbed the 'Square Go', the bout still followed the 30-man format and had wrestlers coming out every few minutes.

There was just one catch: 5 random entrants would come to the ring brandishing a weapon. In the very first Square Go back in 2012, Joe Coffey even used a rubber chicken!

In Glaswegian parlance, to challenge someone to a 'Square Go' is to challenge them to a fight. Adding this local phrase to the event was a stroke of genius, and the show has become one of ICW's most popular each year.

The addition of weapons certainly helped, especially because these items are available for all other entrants to use once introduced.
