6 Devastating WWE Defeats John Cena Suffered At SummerSlam

A Brief Look At His Four Wins

Cena's won four matches at SummerSlam. Here's a look at them in order with some thoughts on the match and the importance of each of them. Cena defeated Booker T at SummerSlam 2004 - Cena was a babyface on the rise at this point in his career. It was the first match in their best of five series that Cena won with the FU (Attitude Adjustment). It wasn't anything special. Cena defeated Chris Jericho at SummerSlam 2005 - Cena was the WWE Champion that had a really long title reign. Jericho was a credible opponent for Cena to face off. They had a very competitive match that Jericho came close to winning multiple times, but Cena was able to nail him with the FU for the win in a 15 minute match. Cena defeated Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2007 - Back when Cena vs. Orton matches were actually fresh, Cena defended the WWE Title against Orton in 2007. It was the only long match on a weak show probably because WWE wanted to make sure everybody was aware that these guys were the future of the company. Cena won clean with the FU (sounds like a familiar ending huh?) after 22 minutes of action. It was good although not great. That's how most Cena/Orton matches are. Team Cena defeated The Nexus at SummerSlam 2010 - This was a 14 man elimination tag match with Cena captaining a team of WWE stars against a new group of wrestlers from NXT called The Nexus. The finish was much talked about with Cena in a 1 on 2 situation against Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel. After Barrett nailed Cena with a DDT on the floor, Cena recovered quickly to pin Gabriel and shortly after that he made Barrett tap out to the STFU for the win for his team. The heels should have won, but they did not. Apparently Cena changed the finished although he might have been booked to go over anyway. It's just that it wasn't booked the right way. Those are the four wins. Now it's time to look at the six losses...
