Throughout 1990, Vince McMahon was on the hunt for a proper, long-term manager for The Undertaker. No disrespect to Bruce Prichard, but c'mon, it's not like 'Taker and Brother Love was ever destined to last.
After being mentioned by Rick Rude, Vince McMahon set up an interview with William Moody to see how he'd fit the role. Looking for someone who could help fit The Undertaker's horror-themed, undead gimmick, the story (according to Moody himself) goes that McMahon flipped through his resume and noticed he had prior experience as a mortician.
Vince looked up into Moody's pale face, laughed a bit, and realized the irony of the situation: he was about to hire an actual undertaker to manage The Undertaker.
Oh, and Undertaker's name at the time was Cain... why not.
