6 Potential Opponents For Jushin Liger In NXT

5. Apollo Crews

Crews is very familiar with the high-flying style. After all, he wrestled for Dragon Gate, and his finisher is a Military Press/standing Moonsault combination. Even though he debuted very recently, and few members of the NXT Universe have seen him (outside of dark matches), Crews needs a long-term feud to really elevate his stock among an already-stacked roster.

So how better to do this than have him wrestle and defeat a certified legend?

Liger is no stranger to helping elevate rookies. He was the one who created and booked the legendary 1994 Super J Cup (the tournament that Dave Meltzer called ‘the single greatest night of wrestling, ever’), and booked himself to lose to the Great Sasuke, in order to elevate this younger star’s career.

That decision led to Sasuke going on and enjoying a wildly successful career, while Liger never lost any momentum whatsoever from losing.

This same direction could be applied to a feud with Apollo Crews. Crews could come down to the ring and prove how good he is, and in doing so, he would challenge the legendary Liger to a match. Crews would show just how athletically-gifted he is by overpowering Liger with his strength, while matching him dive-for-dive in terms of aerial maneuvers.

It’s a sure-fire way to help Crews sky-rocket his way to the top of the NXT ladder.
