6 Reasons Chris Jericho's 2014 WWE Run Was A Failure

5. There Was MUCH More Mileage In A Match With Randy Orton Than What We Ended Up Getting

The "good wrestling match for the sake of a good wrestling match" that was Chris Jericho's finale for his 2014 run in WWE was lame, insipid and ultimately unnecessary. Let's break it down. Jericho is icing down an injury in the trainer's room when, because it's the "Season Premiere" of Raw, Randy Orton attacks him. Is this enough to warrant a Pay-Per-View match? Of course not. Just recently on Smackdown, Cesaro bested an entire ring of other wrestlers in a battle royal and fought Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship on the same night! Maybe, there needed to be a moment in the back where Triple H was holding onto a copy of Chris Jericho's new Fozzy CD while watching their interaction in the Elimination Chamber from 2002 on the WWE Network. Orton walks in like, "Hunter, what's up?" Hunter replies, "Randy, have you realized that you've been in this company for 13 years and that you've only been in one movie and are only a FOUR time World Heavyweight Champion?" Randy says "yes," and asks what Hunter means. Hunter says, "Randy, what I mean is that I think I made a mistake by not putting Chris Jericho in The Authority. I mean, look at him. He's a real face of the company. Fozzy is a WORLDWIDE rock band, Jericho's done Dancing With The Stars, been all over media, AND has been a SIX-TIME World Heavyweight Champion. Hell. He even beat me. When is the last time you could say that you could beat anybody, Randy?" Orton looks surprised, and says to Triple H with a shocked and dejected look, "Hunter...I...I...didn't know you felt this way." THEN Randy attacks Jericho in the back. This would precipitate a reply by Jericho that he didn't even know Triple H felt this way, to which Orton would reply, "he does, and he's right, so I have to end you in order to claim my WWE legacy." Of course, this leads to a PPV match where Orton wins after punting Jericho in the head, and "claiming his legacy." Number one, this re-energizes Orton. Number two, this gives Jericho a reason to not return to WWE well, ever, if he wanted to. As well, when Hunter reveals the next night on Raw that he just did that to "refocus" Randy, it gives Hunter a new edge as a manipulator, which he can then use with Seth Rollins, too. There was SO much more that could've been done with Jericho and Orton that it's terrible that none of it actually happened.
