6. Owen Hart Is Not Alive To Receive It
Being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame is a great honor for WWE Superstars. With a night dedicated to each year's class, a room full of peers and fans acknowledging a career well done, and with all eyes on their speech, the inducted Superstar can truly soak in all the accolades and relive their glory years. Posthumous entries can be touching and sad and special. It's often nice to see the family of a deceased wrestler accept an award on their behalf. With Owen Hart, however, someone who had died so young and especially due to the circumstances of his death, the night would be largely an empty and hollow affair. Owen Hart is dead. He cannot walk up and accept the award. He cannot deliver a speech. There will be no "Woos" by the King of Harts. His wife and kids can not in good conscious accept the award from the company that was responsible for his death. Bret Hart may have been able to come to grips with the Montreal Screwjob and he may have forgiven Vince McMahon for his brother's horrific death. But as strong a bond as brotherly love is, he simply cannot speak for Owen Hart's family. WWE asks permission to induct the living potential inductees. Most willingly accept but some have refused and some have needed some coaxing. Inducting the deceased Owen Hart, without his family's okay would be the ultimate disrespect and not the great honor the award is meant to be.
