WWE: 7 Reasons Owen Hart Should NEVER Go Into Hall Of Fame

3. He May Not Actually Be Worthy

The sad truth of the matter is, taking his death out of the equation, Owen Hart's career might not actually be Hall of Fame worthy in the first place. Obviously such a thing is somewhat subjective and with Koko B. Ware getting the nod the bar is set quite low. Taking honest stock in Owen's career might cause many fans to reconsider their stance. After several years as a glorified jobber Owen finally got a chance to shine in is program with Bret Hart. Owen was brilliant as the jealous brother trying to escape his sibling's shadow. His Wrestlemania X match and his SummerSlam cage match with Bret solidified Owen as a top hand in the company. He would soon stock up accolades and championships by winning the King of the Ring, tag team titles, lower singles titles, and Slammy awards. As decorated a superstar as Owen was he was never the World Champion. Despite main-eventing against Bret for a large part of a year, Owen was never truly in a position to win that title and he never again would reach that level of importance. A solid mid-card performer, of course. A Hall of Famer? Maybe not. In the tail end of his career before his death Owen would flounder in the mid-card. He was by all accounts uncomfortable in the Attitude Era and it showed. He had put on weight. His energy level was visibly down and it looked like he was simply going through the motions during many of his matches. His brother had left him. He had almost ended the career of the company's blossoming meal ticket in Stone Cold Steve Austin. By some accounts the return of the Blue Blazer was a punishment but one that Owen might actually have made work. In the end, though, even that was just a jokey gimmick and would not have been a springboard to the Hall of Fame. Owen was incredibly gifted. He had a unique charisma and could play the whiney heel like nobody else. He had several great matches and was involved in many memorable story lines. Taking The Birdman out of it, comparing Owen next to names like Hogan, Austin, Sammartino, and Flair...the Black Hart just doesn't really hold up.
