6 Reasons The Rock Vs Rusev Must Happen At WrestleMania 31
3. It Might Distract People From CM Punk
The clamouring of wrestling fans for CM Punk's return is becoming ludicrous now, but shows little sign of slowing. Chants of his name still pepper WWE programming, and even if they die down in the next few months, they will surely resurface in time for the notoriously return-heavy Royal Rumble in January. The build to WrestleMania 31 is unlikely to pass without substantial mention of the possibility of a shock return. A man of Vince McMahon's ego and grudge-bearing nature would probably not take too kindly to his biggest event of the year featuring any "CM Punk" chants at all, let alone the amount generated by the thousands of die-hard wrestling purists who make up much of WrestleMania's live audience. The only real way to combat the disappointment of Punk's continued absence is with star power elsewhere. A match featuring The Rock would take steps to combat this - especially with Johnson playing the unquestionable babyface, as opposed to the tweener persona he adopted in his matches with John Cena. Additionally, let's not forget the rumoured reports of Steve Austin's in-ring return - a match from both legends at 'Mania might just be enough to confine the memory of CM Punk to the past. At least until the next night on RAW.
