6 Recent Times WWE Taught Us That Friendship Means Nothing

5. James Ellsworth & Dean Ambrose

James Ellworth is a real life wrestling underdog story. The man who made his WWE debut in what was meant to be a one-time only appearance as sustenance for Braun Strowman's, Ellsworth managed to parlay that job into an unlikely full-time gig with WWE.

All of a sudden a comedy act that was the antithesis of everything WWE looked for in a talent was having somewhat competitive matches with AJ Styles. During this time, James was buddied up with Dean Ambrose, with whom he shared a mutual beef with 'The Phenomenal One'. Ambrose found a soft spot in his heart for the chinless rube, taking him under his wing like a protective big brother.

In addition to helping him pull out several upsets over AJ, Dean was basically single-handedly responsible for Ellsworth remaining on SmackDown, interfering in his ladder match with Styles to earn him a contract, while Ellsworth's attempts to return the favor often backfired. Despite his constant bungles and failures, 'The Lunatic Fringe' showed an uncharacteristic amount of compassion, always forgiving James in the end.

WWE's version of The Odd Couple came to an end at TLC 2016 when Ellsworth pushed Dean off the ladder just as he was about to win the title, allowing AJ to ascend and claim his championship. His excuse was it was "just business" and that since he'd beaten AJ three times already he was confident he could do it again. But without the help of the man he turned his back on, he ended up getting squashed in under a minute,

For someone given so much despite deserving so little, this was a truly disappointing turn of events, and Ellsworth is now suffering for his poor decisions as Carmella's...whatever he is.
