6 Things That Must Happen At NXT TakeOver: Chicago
4. Keep It Short, Stupid
#DIY will challenge The Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships in Chicago, in a match that seems to suit Gargano and Ciampa - a ladder match. Akam and Rezar are still undefeated in NXT, but the odds are being stacked against Paul Ellering's men in Chicago. Is it time for The Authors to suffer their first setback?
This writer doesn't think the result of the match is all that important. Obviously it matters who wins, but positives can be gained from either result. If Gargano and Ciampa pull out the win then NXT has its most popular team on top once again, and babyface champions are a rare thing in modern day NXT. If The Authors win then that is fine too, and we continue to build to the eventual AoP/Heavy Machinery match.
What matters here is the length of the match. The Authors have slowly been working longer and longer matches on TakeOver specials, as they continue to develop and evolve. Akam and Rezar have had the luck of working extensively with two experienced performers such as Ciampa and Gargano, and it will benefit them hugely in the long run.
It seems strange to want this from a ladder match, but this should be a 10-minute sprint at most. The Authors look best when they have destructive momentum on their side, and #DIY are a joy to watch when frantically working from underneath. If this starts at 100mph and goes on from there, we could be in for something special.
