6 Things That Must Happen At NXT TakeOver: San Antonio
6. Roderick Strong Gets A Personality
Roderick Strong is really good at wrestling. Like, really good. The man is an experienced ring general who knows where to be and when to be there, executes moves excellently and generally does all of the physical stuff inside the squared circle at an elite level. This is the sort of thing that isn't up for debate.
The problem with Strong in NXT is that bland vanilla babyface Roderick Strong is the most boring of all pro wrestling characters, and ever since Austin Aries' eye exploded on the end Nakamura's foot, bland vanilla babyface Roderick Strong is what we now get. Strong isn't turning any time soon either, so we best get used to this state of affairs.
Strong is taking on Andrade Almas in a battle of two guys with reputations that are one thousand times better as heels than faces. Almas sure as heck needs the win, and as such I'd expect him to have his hand raised at the end of the assumed show opener - but the most important takeaway from this must be that Strong begins to develop a personality.
NXT has consistently shown us that 'Hi I have a reputation outside WWE and am good at wrestling' is the worst NXT babyface gimmick, so something really needs to happen with Roddy.
