6 Things That Must Happen At NXT TakeOver: San Antonio
1. The NXT Championship Becomes Glorious
NXT is in a perilous position. The top end of the roster is weaker than it has ever been, as evidenced by Bobby Roode's route to this NXT Championship opportunity. Roode defeated Oney Lorcan to qualify for the number one contenders match, where he outlasted Almas, Strong and Dillinger to stamp his name next to Shinsuke Nakamura's in San Antonio.
But all of this yet may be a glorious blessing in disguise, as NXT will find it easier to rebuild with Roode on top as champion as opposed to the unbeatable Nakamura. The idea of either of these men being in developmental is entirely preposterous, of course, but NXT's main problem at the moment stems from a lack of standout babyfaces. Bobby Roode is just vulnerable enough as a major heel to cultivate such performers.
Plus Nakamura needs to get to the main roster already, right? He is a valuable tool for NXT, but NXT feeds the big beast and the road to WrestleMania makes the big beast hungrier than ever. The best thing that can happen to NXT over this weekend would be for Bobby Roode to come away with the NXT Championship. All of a sudden, program might look a little more intriguing.
Only then can NXT truly become glorious once again.
