6 Things We Learned From WWE's Fourth Quarter Earnings
2. WWE's Global Expansion Is Just Beginning
The UK Tournament’s announcement opened up all kinds of speculation on future regional tournaments. The rumour mill soon went wild with talk of tournaments in Asia and Latin America, and while the Asian movement has picked-up steam in recent weeks, WWE still haven’t made their global plans entirely clear.
It sounds like WWE are just getting started with their worldwide expansion, however. Barrios declined to comment on any partnerships that might be forthcoming this year, but McMahon noted that the UK tournament has allowed them to capitalise on local and larger markets. He appears to be excited by the opportunity to enter similar markets around the globe, and that they’ve barely scratched the surface in this regard.
McMahon praised Triple H for his role in attracting top global talents to the company through both the UK Tournament and the Cruiserweight Classic. The Game will presumably play a similar role if WWE continue their global incursions, which seems increasingly likely after the call.
With just 400,000 international subscribers, the WWE Network’s global adoption rate isn’t where the company would like it to be. Expanding their reach with tournaments in Asia, Latin America, and elsewhere could be key to building on that number, and increasing subscription rates across the board.
