6 Things WWE Can Learn From Lucha Underground
2. Make Mid-card Acts Feel Important
Lucha Underground does an excellent job of making all of their wrestlers feel important.
Even midcard acts like the military assassin Killshot are well-defined and interesting characters who are involved in impactful storylines. His season 3 storyline involving Dante Fox, a military colleague that Killshot left on the battlefield who returns to confront him is an excellent example.
On the other hand, we have WWE who gives us midcard acts like The Shining Stars - a heel tag team which fans were supposed to dislike because they have the audacity to try and convince people to vacation in their home country of Puerto Rico. They weren’t involved in any meaningful storylines and were primarily used to kill time on Raw. The duo recently moved to SmackDown and were rebranded as The Colons, which is at least a slight upgrade.
Lucha doesn’t feature acts like The Shining Stars who fans aren’t invested in. If WWE wants to keep fans from changing the channel during a three hour Raw program then they need to make sure they have compelling midcard characters and understand that two guys selling time shares in Puerto Rico aren't the type of characters fans are going to get behind.
In other words, WWE needs more Killshots and fewer Shining Stars.
