Dave Meltzer reported today that Cass was fired mere hours before SmackDown went on the air.

Vince McMahon held a crisis meeting with other officials on Tuesday afternoon, and Cass was soon notified that his contract would be ripped up. Right now, it's unclear whether or not there was some kind of verbal altercation that helped make up McMahon's mind that day, but it appears he'd been contemplating it for a while.

There was no news from Meltzer on what Cass would be doing on the episode after losing to Daniel Bryan at Money In The Bank. Though it makes sense that he'd have moved on to a fresh feud in the mid card, Cass was coming out of the latest pay-per-view with zero momentum as a heel.

The Wrestling Observer did previously report that local advertising for Extreme Rules in Pittsburgh had Cass earmarked for another rematch against Bryan. After that, who can say for sure what he'd have done heading into SummerSlam.
