6 Times Wrestlers Tried (And Failed) To Get Fired Live On Air
4. EC3
The former Ethan Carter III’s trajectory through the sports entertainment giant on his second attempt was a strange one indeed, all things considered. He hadn’t lasted long the first time but had really made a name for himself in TNA in the following half-decade. He was an exciting prospect in the revitalised NXT but was sent from the Black and Gold to the main roster in very short order.
Immediately after landing on the bigger shows, it was clear that WWE had no plans for EC3. A man with the gift of gab and his gimmick was to be a mute? Carter then lost his first match on TV against Dean Ambrose via cheap roll-up as part of a story that never started, let alone never finished. Before long, he was relegated to chasing the 24/7 Championship prop around backstage. It was an awful sight to behold. Fans, like EC3 himself seemed to, gave up hope.
Rewatching segments from the latter stages of EC3’s run shows a man that has so much potential, just going through the motions. Not that his work was bad, but he was not giving his 100%. Since the company wasn’t investing in him, you can’t blame him.
When WWE started making sweeping releases throughout the 2020 pandemic days, the names we all saw listed ranged from the downright shocking to the sadly expected. One such figure of the latter variety was EC3. Even the superstar himself saw it coming.
