After a couple of highly successful years in TNA, including becoming the company’s first ever Knockouts Champion, Gail Kim decided that a return to North America’s biggest wrestling promotion was a worthwhile endeavour.

However, she struggled to find her footing during this second WWE run and furthermore became disillusioned with the booking and fan reception to the women’s division. On the 1 August 2011 edition of Raw, Kim was part of a battle royal to determine a #1 contender to the Diva’s Championship. She was told she would be “eliminated in the first minute” by “whoever”. This was the final straw.

WWE cameras didn’t really pick up the moment itself but Gail’s participation in the match amounted to hitting Alicia Fox, telling her to sell and then unceremoniously rolling herself out of the ring and leaving.

The biggest case of a superstar “taking their ball and going home”, Gail had made her mind up and no longer cared about her time in WWE. Most likely keen to get back to Impact, Kim probably figured an on-screen walk out was the best way to get terminated early. Unfortunately, she didn’t get outright fired.

A few days later, Kim told her social media followers that she had quit the company, but in actuality WWE forced her to sit out her contract. Sadly, it seems that WWE used this to punish her by making her stay at home until over a month later.
