6 Times WWE Used Concussion Injuries For Storylines

5. Head Injuries = How To Make A Babyface?

When Randy Orton bombed, and bombed hard, during his babyface run in late 2004/early 2005, WWE must have been panicking. They'd had Orton versus Triple H planned as the WrestleMania main event for months but the Legend Killer just wasn't getting over as a good guy with the masses. He was naturally unlikeable and didn't look comfortable in the role (and he wasn't helped by some seriously shoddy booking, either). So WWE felt they give him a little something extra that would, perhaps, finally get the fans on his side. At the 2005 Royal Rumble, Orton suffered a storyline concussion during his match with The Game, which resulted in him losing the contest. Over the next few weeks young Randall would compete on Raw but inevitably have to helped by other wrestlers and staff as a result of the lingering effects. He'd be fine one second, but then punch-drunk the next. While the initial angle did add to the drama of the Royal Rumble match, as the weeks went on it just got less and less compelling and WWE ended up quietly dropping it. The storyline wasn't making the fans relate to or sympathise with Orton so they changed tact, turning him heel and having him feud with The Undertaker instead.
