6 Times WWE Used Concussion Injuries For Storylines
4. HBK's Judgement Day
Hey look, it's Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels and they're involved in a concussion storyline again! Those two just can't get enough of the old head trauma, can they? This was a head injury angle necessitated because of a real-life knee injury, with The Showstopper unable to work a proper match due to impending surgery. He'd been working on a kanckered wheel for a while and it finally gave out. Rather than cancel the match entirely, WWE wrote it into the storyline, having Orton attack MIchaels backstage before the match had even begun. Orton then demanded that he be declared the winner, claiming Michaels couldn't compete but HBK stumbled out anyway and tried to fight on, as all good babyfaces must. He didn't get very far, crumbling to the mat while attempting Sweet Chin Music just minutes into the contest. The ref called the match off, but that wasn't enough for Orton who laid out his opponent with an RKO. That was enough to draw out Michaels' wife, the deeply concerned Rebecca, which added an extra element of realism to affair. To be fair to WWE, they did the right thing here, putting Orton over strong while automatically giving Michaels a top programme when he returned months down the line.
