6 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (14 Sept)

Ups...

6. A Cold House, But...

Toni Storm Serena Deeb
AEW

That the tag team match pitting Athena and Toni Storm vs. Serena Deeb and Britt Baker largely played out to near-silence is once again a consequence of factors outwith the performers' control. They had a good match, here, but audiences still haven't been conditioned to accept these things as important. C'est la vie. We're three years in now.

But yes, a good match here. Serena Deeb largely ran things for her side, feeding Athena's bursts of eyecatching offense and working tighter, more technical exchanges with Storm. She made for an interesting Baker partner. Serena's more domineering, serious personality meshes well with the more expressive Britt and while stylistically different, The Professor is a good Jamie Hayter expy.

The finish came through a heel distraction, with Deeb throwing Toni into a chair held by Baker as Rebel took the referee's attention. Deeb then scored a pinfall on the Interim Women's World Champion. As the third distraction-adjacent finish in four matches on the show up to this point, there's a strong argument to be made for stronger agenting.

Hayter's post-match saw her stay consistent with her personality rather than a specific alignment. Though she opted to blast Storm, not Baker, with a steel chair, she still wasn't forgiving the good doctor for what happened at All Out.
