6 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (28 February - Results & Review)
4. Kris Statlander RULES
With ideal timing, Skye Blue defeated Kris Statlander following her tightest and most accomplished in-ring outing yet. Until the finishing stretch, this was a straight shoot-out. It was lean, focused and explosive. Stat is just an awesome wrestler who can take anybody out from any angle without revving up, as she demonstrated by smashing Blue with a propulsive leaping back elbow after barely moving a step toward the corner.
Stat's physical timing is just something else. She has the ability to almost warp wherever she needs to be. It never feels like she's dumbly walking into anything or waiting to take a move. That said, Blue needed to be on-point to make this as tight as it was. Her strikes were snug and beautifully timed, and she used that dialled-in sense of timing to maker her counters - a gorgeous drop-toe hold especially - look last-gasp.
This was a familiar modern match in a lot of ways - Canadian destroyers, German suplexes on the apron etc. - but the execution elevated it.
At the finish, Stokely Hathaway urged Statlander to use a chain, and in another really well-timed moment, Julie Hart punished her with a belt shot to allow Skye the win.
