6 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (Feb 25)
3. No More Powerbombs?!
What a terrific piece of work that Wardlow match and post-match promo was.
The big man's power-heavy scrap with Nick Comoroto was like a throwback to the 1980s WWF. It was just two big dudes punching, kicking and throwing each other around, and it was totally refreshing to see something like that in a company like AEW. This could become Wardlow's niche. Bring it on.
Later, Shawn Spears excelled on the mic by saying he and MJF are proud of Wardlow but want the walking bench press machine to ditch multiple Powerbombs from his arsenal and focus on pinning opponents as soon as he can. That didn't go down well with the live crowd, and it's great that All Elite are getting so much from something so simple.
This is all wrestling fans ask for. They want to see fun matches, slick mic work and storyline/character development. Between them, Wardlow and Spears delivered all of that here. Comoroto deserves a pat on the back himself for the part he played in making Wardlow look like a monster.
