6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (21 Mar - Results & Review)

Ups...

6. A Solid Tag (And Another Scottish Beatdown)

Drew McIntyre Damian Priest

In his native Scotland, the kicking Drew McIntyre gave Damian Priest post match might be called a "scheme booting". No, don't bother Googling that. It basically means a particularly rough beating that's hardly full of finesse but gets the job done anyway. McIntyre's frustrations boiled over yet again, which has been a recurring theme for him since turning heel on the WWE roster.

Another upside came in the form of a solid tag-team match pitting Priest and Jimmy Uso vs. Drew and Shinsuke Nakamura. The latter was blatantly there to take the pin from Damian, but that’s really going to be Shin’s lot in WWE these days. He’s a jobber to the stars post-United States Title run. Fair, because the bigger fish was furthering Priest vs. McIntyre, and creative did that here.

The fact they managed to squeeze a decent match into the bargain is a bonus add-on to the beef between two big powerhouses who just so happen to need one another for relevance on the 'Mania 41 pecking order. That's not a random moan. McIntyre vs. Priest could well be a sleeper hit in Las Vegas. They gelled well last summer over on Scottish soil for Clash At The Castle, for example.

A nifty chunk of time (somewhere between 15-20 minutes would do it) for both sounds like the right call at WrestleMania. They won't be opening either night, one would imagine, but Drew and Damian should get a reaction due to their star power anyway. Their midcard scrap won't die a death in front of some bored audience.

They're too good and too over for that.
