6 Ups & 3 Downs For AEW Collision (June 1 - Results & Review)
3. The Start Of Something For STP?
Shane Taylor has been a semi-regular presence on AEW in 2024, previously competing seven times on the company's Saturday show this year. The problem is, Taylor has lost every single one of those Collision matches. As a team, Shane Taylor Promotions have only won one AEW match ever, which in itself was merely a result of the brewing issues between Chris Jericho, Katsuyori Shibata, and HOOK. And where poor Lee Moriarty is concerned, discounting that win over Jericho, Shibata, and HOOK, his last televised AEW victory was over a year ago, teaming with Big Bill to pick up a May 2023 Rampage win over the Best Friends.
The point being, despite making fairly regular AEW appearances this year, STP have been made to look like perennial losers - always coming up short despite often impressing in-ring.
Thankfully, that momentum had a change on this week's Collision, with Taylor and Moriarty getting a straightforward five-minute win over Royce Isaacs and Jorel Nelson. Taylor in particular always shines with his vicious striking, all-out power, and constant sh*t-talking, and that was again the case here, with the big man taking the bulk of the match before putting Nelson away.
As for Isaacs and Nelson, they did at least get a brief video package to hype them up a little for those not familiar with them. On that front, the West Coast Wrecking Crew is a very solid tandem, first coming together in 2018 before really finding their feet as a team once landing in New Japan/NJPW Strong. Whether that video package was done with the idea that Isaacs and Nelson will compete for AEW again in the future, that remains to be seen, but it at least made them feel like more than just outright fodder - even if, ultimately, that was indeed their role.
The big story here was Shane Taylor Promotions finally getting a clean, comprehensive win on AEW TV, and here's hoping this is the start of good things to come for Taylor, Moriarty, and Anthony Ogogo.
