6 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (21 June - Review)

5. A Good, Not Great, And Confusing Bit Of Fun

Mark Briscoe
AEW

Did the Concession Stand Brawl spell the end of Jeff Jarrett?

He had claimed on the Road To Dynamite supplementary YouTube show that he would leave AEW were he to lose, and he lost, and this wasn't brought up on commentary. Was that dropped? It still scanned as a send-off.

With the exception of FTR, everybody wronged by Jarrett and his cronies came out to equalise the odds by taking them out at the finish. Whatever the case, it probably is time for Jarrett to leave our screens. This is in the 'Up' column, obviously, but it wasn't the can't-fail match that the graphic promised. It was too inspired and good to fail, but it wasn't...that good. It lacked a certain charm, which suggests that people are over the over-booked Total Non-Stop Memphis tribute. It peaked at Double Or Nothing, and this was an amusing enough epilogue, but that is about it. It was rushed. Very little felt like a major, heat-drawing transgression.

Briscoe sold the effects of Karen Jarrett spraying mustard in his eyes for all of a few seconds before it was washed out of his eyes and it was onto the next spot. The story told was of Jarrett's gang emerging from hiding places before Papa Briscoe foiled their plan. It was nice. It wasn't heated or that violent beyond a crazed, wasteful ladder dive on the part of Mark.

It was fun while it lasted, but that's in the past tense, whether or not it's actually finished.
