6 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jun 23)
Ups...
6. Smiley Kylie No More
Taya Valkyrie vs. Susie is a match that will likely be forgotten about this time next week. It looked rather sloppy in a few places, particularly on Susie's Road to Valhalla counter and her corner headscissors into the turnbuckles. When 'Wera Loca' mercifully ended the bout with her facebuster finish, a sigh of relief came over this columnist.
Her decision to continue berating Susie post-match, however? It was pointless for the most part. Had it been Su Yung she was dominating, then perhaps it would have been slightly better. The arrival of Kylie Rae is what made this better than it was. She hadn't accompanied Susie for her recent match with Kiera Hogan, putting their friendship into question. Landing a nasty superkick to Taya's jaw though - boy, did that connection sound rough - cemented that relationship between the second and third cheeriest people in wrestling, behind only Simon Miller. Good stuff that was certainly required at this point.
The match itself may have been dire in places, but at least we got some character development from 'Smiley Kylie'. The expression across her face as she stormed the ring was vastly different to what we're used to seeing from her usual cheery self. Going forward, Rae vs. Valkyrie could very well be a match of the year contender for Impact Wrestling. The two could be set for a duel at Slammiversary, giving them the big platform they need to produce a match to remember.
After this, that's exactly what we need to be seeing.
