The result of the I Quit match seemed like a foregone conclusion up until a couple days before Clash at the Castle, when it was revealed that Cody Rhodes’ mother Michelle was Scotland-bound as well for the PLE.

At that moment, there was doubt injected into the outcome. It was perfectly believable that AJ Styles could use Mama Rhodes against Cody to get him to quit, whether by threatening her or getting her to convince him to give up. While still unlikely, this shifted expectations to a bit more uncertain than in the lead-up to that point.

AJ played his part perfectly, repeatedly pointing at Mama Rhodes and jawing with her, at one point receiving a series of slaps from her and briefly threatening her with a chair. In the end, it turned out that she was little more than a red herring, with Cody vanquishing Styles in convincing fashion. Great stuff.
