6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (24 June)

1. Gallus Boys On Top, Apparently

Mark Coffey Sha Samuels

Wolfgang defeated Sam Gradwell last Thursday, and now Mark Coffey's defeated Sha Samuels. Cool. The matches weren't up to scratch, though.

Coffey vs. Samuels was fought at an inexplicably slower pace than you'd expect from either guy. Mixing headlocks, arm drags, and stiff Lariats in the early stages didn't allow for an enjoyable match. Those Lariats were fine. Sha's scoop slam, dropping Coffey on his hip rather than his back, was fine. Sha's Spinebuster was fine. Everything was just fine.

That the match ended off a back elbow was entirely underwhelming. Coffey's leaping kick that preceded it came with a sickening sound when his ankle connected with Samuels' ear. That would have sufficed as a match-ender; the weak back elbow was in no way needed, particularly if we're now meant to perceive this as Mark's go-to finisher.

Much like Wolfgang vs. Sam Gradwell was, this was a match that should have banged, but instead suffered for seemingly no reason. Both guys appeared to hold back in a situation where they didn't need to. Now what? Mark and Wolfie are 1-1 in their side-series. Literally nothing has been achieved as a result of this. A complete waste of time made worse given its lacklustre pair of contests.
