6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (24 June)

Stevie Turner vs. Laura di Matteo didn't matter. This was Turner's second bout, beginning her story of being built up against a quote unquote enhancement talent. Matteo could take a loss because she's not signed. If she remains looking strong, she'll look grand if she does sign. It follows the trademark NXT UK squash match.

Turner and Matteo wrestled a fine match that saw some decent strikes from Stevie, notably a seated clothesline and a pump kick. Matteo's comeback that she mounted was dismal, sadly, as she hit perhaps the weakest dropkick your writer has witnessed. The match ended mere moments later off a botched attempt at Liv Morgan's springboard Flatliner.

Those mistakes, for lack of a better term, didn't really take much away from the match. In fact, Stevie's miscalculated attempt at Liv's signature made it seem far more impactful, planting Matteo's nose directly into the mat.

Look, your writer is fully aware that NXT UK struggles when it comes to effectively building up their female talents - Stevie's last match was almost three months ago, for example - and that's understandable. There's room for improvement and that's also fine. Stevie is, however, clearly going all in on this character. All she needs to do is hope NXT UK do the same.
