6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (10 May - Results & Review)

2. As Good A Stopgap Challenge As Any

Cody Rhodes Logan Paul

The definite upside to Logan Paul challenging Cody Rhodes is that WWE knows they'll get a killer match out of it over in Saudi Arabia. This is nothing new for the top champion either. Cast your minds back to Roman's title reign - he worked countless one-off PLE matches against all comers. LP was even one of them!

WWE is in a strange spot, of course. They have plenty of PLEs on the schedule but don't want to book Rhodes in an 'A' feud until closer to SummerSlam. So, they're serving up 'B' stuff like the AJ Styles match and this Logan bout. At least Paul's side of the promo worked overtime to bung some story context in there.

Admittedly, there isn't that much meat on the bone, but both guys did well on the mic and it's hard to argue with picking Paul as an opponent for Cody in the short term. Perhaps Triple H will stumble on something special he can come back to later on. You never know.

SummerSlam can't come soon enough for the epic story lovers though.
