6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 23)

3. The Real Brawling Brutes

OK, there's no denying it - the fireball spot Scarlett tried to work with Drew McIntyre failed. WWE did their best to shoot around it, but it didn't work in execution. Thankfully, Drew and Karrion Kross managed to rescue everyone from embarrassment by producing a hot brawl.

This is the kind of angle that'd make Terry Funk rub his knees and smile.

McIntyre challenging Kross to a 'Strap Match' at Extreme Rules makes sense too. Karrion has been using some hit and run tactics on the Scot since returning, so Drew decided he's sick of that and wants Kross directly in front of him. His challenge was a display of valiant babyface goodness, and it worked.

It's already clear that these men have some chemistry together too. The way McIntyre's face twisted into a look of sheer desperation in Karrion's submission was stunning, and Kross' own angry expressions only added to the visual.

Fiery disaster averted!
