6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 9)

3. Everything About The Opener

In time, the thumping fight Sheamus and Gunther worked on Clash At The Castle will be viewed as an appetiser. Fans in Seattle for SmackDown proved one thing: WWE's fanbase craves more of that hard-hitting goodness. That's why they all lost their minds for a mere stand-off between both men.

It was electric.

Everyone worked so well together in the six-man generally though. Plus, and this is something most might not pick up on given the Sheamus/Gunther excitement, the match was a nice way to give Ridge Holland more in-ring reps. He'll learn from watching that pair, Butch and the Imperium lads do their thing.

Ridge ate the pin, but he didn't look out of place. This was just stunning work all-round, and should've shown Triple H's creative team that they're on the right lines by teasing a Gunther vs. Sheamus rematch. Put them in some sort of gimmick bout at Extreme Rules, please.
