6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (13 April)
2. MJF Slips On ANOTHER Banana Skin
It's magic, this MJF/Wardlow storyline.
The big man is radiating genuine Goldberg vibes as he rampages through security guards week after week, drawing some of the biggest crowd reactions on the show in the process. He's doing a great job of it, too. When the camera cuts backstage, revealing a room full of downed staffers, it's like tossing a lit match into a barrel of oil, the building erupting with anticipation. MJF's perfectly-sold terror puts it over the edge. Then, when Wardlow strikes (disguising himself as a security team member here), everything explodes.
This week's Wardlow interruption saw MJF eat another loss to Shawn Dean, having been rendered unable to return to the ring by the massive pile of bodies holding his former bodyguard back. Incredulous, Max tried to get in referee Bryce Remsburg's face (after trying to pay him off), though the official refused to back down from a man who values money more than anything, and therefore didn't want to risk a fine.
Later, MJF cued up The Butcher to slay his little piggy next week.
Wardlow, MJF, and the peripheral characters continue to knock this one out of the park. AEW is doing a great job of drip-feeding the audience with enough minor variations to keep the audience hungry without it becoming repetitive. The eventual payoff is going to be immense.
