6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Feb 24)
3. Sting Peaks At The Right Moment
From start to finish, this was a riot, and a great example of AEW at its most fun.
Ricky Starks and Brian Cage bested the Varsity Blonds in a sweet little mid-show tag. Brian Pillman Jr. entered a particularly impressive performance in defeat, having seemingly found his groove in AEW, while Griff Garrison was a late-match highlight as well, bursting to life to push Team Taz dangerously close to defeat. Brian Cage stopped their fun, though, extinguishing their fire with clobbering offense before nailing the match-ending Drill Claw.
The lights died, a grainy Darby Allin vignette aired, and out came Sting, pulling a bodybag behind him. This would have been effective enough had Darby popped out of the bag, but no: it was Hook.
With Team Taz shocked, Darby came down from the rafters on a zipline. And Sting? He went nuts. The 61-year-old looked good in a brawl that saw him brawl Cage into the corner, hit a Stinger Splash and a Scorpion Death Drop, easing a bunch of physical concerns ahead of Revolution's Street Fight in the process.
What a popping angle. While the early weeks of this feud struggled, and largely revolved around the same repetitive patterns every time out, the past couple of Dynamites have pumped it up. Sting, it seems, can still go to a degree - and that's awesome.
