6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (October 18 - Results & Review)
Ups…
6. MJF's Plate Is Full
Such is life in AEW at the moment that realistically the best thing they have going isn't without a few flaws. MJF's work courted criticism and controversy in equal measures over the last few weeks, but a renewed focus on his kayfabe raison d'etre stood in direct contrast to the complaints.
His ongoing war with Bullet Club Gold felt re-energised by Juice Robinson's TJ Maxx ring patter and the brawl with Jay White at the climax of the battle royal 'Rock Hard' managed to win. 'The Salt Of The Earth' openly acknowledging that Samoa Joe is on his tail was confirmation that Joe's recent debonair declaration of war wasn't for naught. Mere mention of him by Roderick Strong opened that right back up just as surgeons do the same to Adam Cole and put that side of things on ice. Max Caster's infatuation isn't quite clicking yet, but Friedman evidently needs allies and The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass might be perfect for the job.
And, most thrillingly, he put Kenny Omega on notice that he'd break his title longevity record in 13 days. This was perhaps the most exciting bringing together of two wrestlers since Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page first shared the screen last month. The big stars fighting each other should be the biggest benefit of AEW's swollen roster - the more they tease matches like this, the more the power has a chance of permanently coming back.
