6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (October 18 - Results & Review)

4. Kenny Omega Vs Kyle Fletcher

Kenny Omega Kyle Fletcher
AEW

Kenny Omega referring to himself as the measuring stick in AEW in spite of a "putrid" year was a great detail to add ahead of a rare Dynamite singles match for the 'Best Bout Machine', especially when it was followed up by Don Callis virtually brushing past him as a threat ahead of the Kyle Fletcher match.

Callis and the family were instead content to heap more dirt on the buried body of Chris Jericho following Powerhouse Hobbs' awesome squash win, and did so with a tale of lingering resentment that informed Hobbs' bile. Fletcher's role in all of this was intriguing - at first keen to prove he wasn't a blot on Callis' copybook, he then babyfaced himself in a quality television outing with Omega that raised the ire of the 'Invisible Hand' when he was forced to eat defeat.

Omega was in stellar form, using the match to remind himself just who the hell he was following MJF's reminder that his record was about to fall. This felt like a lowkey kickoff to the next big picture story for Omega, and with Fletcher as a new potential ally in the war against the Callis group, a new wrinkle has been added to a certain rubber match with Will Ospreay. Though not the best Omega (or Fletcher) singles match of 2023, it may prove to be one of the more significant ones when some newly rattled dust once again settles.
