6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage: Grand Slam (Sept 23)

1. Right Main Event, Right Winner!

Tony Khan could've picked the 'Battle Royale' with World Title implications, Sting and Darby Allin vs. House Of Black (complete with Muta's moment) or even Sammy Guevara vs. Eddie Kingston to headline this week's 'Grand Slam' Rampage. He didn't. The boss went for something different.

Kudos to him for giving Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks the platform.

The former Team Taz members delivered a strong main event brawl, and it was pleasing to see fans around ringside invest with a few, 'Come on, Ricky!' shouts. Despite being naturally heel-ish, Starks does have potential to breakout as a top babyface, so it's even sweeter that AEW's core fanbase is along for the ride.

This was the best brawl of the lot. It was a cut above Kingston vs. Guevara and that opening tag. Plus, Starks took a brutal back body drop onto the spine of some steel chairs that you honestly need to see. That must've hurt like crazy.

What an effort.
