6 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (5 August)

1. Jake Wins Something

Josh Alexander and Jake Something's X Division Championship match at Emergence is going to rule exceptionally hard. The number one contender's match did, at least.

Facing Rohit Raju, Trey Miguel, and Daivari, the former Cousin Jake was easily the star here. Between launching himself into all three lads with a leaping Crossbody and the combined force of both his sit-down Powerbomb to Trey and match-winning Black Hole Slam to Daivari, Jake came away from this looking like a champion. That was needed, if he's to be perceived as a potential X Division Champion.

In non-Jake Something material, the rest of the match banged. Trey Miguel was on form, simultaneously holding Rohit in an Indian deathlock while downing the former Shiek Abdul Bashir with a Paige Turner. To execute the latter while keeping the submission on Raju intact requires serious precision.

This was a peak, circa-2005 X Division multi-man clash. Everything flowed seamlessly and, crucially, made sense. Because Jake Something was the beefiest guy in the match, he worked as such; you weren't going to see Daivari hitting stiff Powerbombs, for example. Consistently good stuff during this one. Now, we await Alexander vs. Something.
